The band is formerly known as "Swedish Whistler" and has been around since the mid 90's. In the summer of 1997 Swedish WHISTLER produced their first CD; an EP called "Pop Fiction" (released 11/05/1998 by Norwegian Bed Not Found Records). Because Swedish WHISTLER was the most downloaded unsigned band on Swedish musicsite Deo.com they had a place on the great KalasTour, together with well-established bands in Sweden like Kent, TeddyBears Stockholm, Sahara Hotnights etc.

Swedish WHISTLER won the music contest "Orkester 2000" arranged by Swedish Radio P4 Kronoberg The prize was a studiorecording and money as well. This studio recording + some more recordings became their the next CD: "Great Lizard Cuckoo" Released by the US Label, PeaceWork Records.

The summer 2002 Swedish Whistler went to California, USA, for their first mini-tour abroad. They also played at the International Pop Overthrow - festival in Los Angeles.

October 2003 they went to Liverpool for a second mini-tour abroad. Doing 4 gigs in 5 days. One of them at The Cavern.

They started to co-operate with the label Riverside Records (Sweden) and soon their first single was released with major distrubution through Bonnier Music.

In august 2004 they once again headed UK, this time to Cambridge for a gig at the Rockinbeerfest in Huntingdon / Cambridge.

Their co-operation with Riverside Rec increased and a second single under a new bandname (The Airwaves) have been made to promote an upcoming whole-length album.

By several reasons they decided to change the bandname to The Airwaves (wich has been a sideproject for a while) and, with a few differences in the band, let go of the former name. In Brighton, 21st - 24th of September 2006, our last performances as Swedish Whistler were made.
